A comment with an overview and links to more information. Poor shifting in the middle of the cassette self. I recently performed a long overdue degreasing session which involved taking the chain and cassette off and putting them back on again. When I put them back on I must have bumped the rear derailleur because suddenly my rear shifting was messed up.
I have since followed the typical procedure of aligning the high gear and low gear before fiddling with the cable tension but something still isn't quite right, because shifting between the low gears, and shifting between the high gears, seems just fine while shifting from 4 to 5 is terrible but shifting from 5 to 4 is pretty good.
I inspected the cassette and the teeth seem perfectly fine, which makes sense since I had fairly good shifting before I took off the chain and cassette. How do I address this shifting problem in the middle? I would not be surprised if there were shifting issues at the end gears but it seems strange to me that the middle gears are causing me issues. TL;DR: Shifting from big rear gears to 4th biggest gear is fine; shifting from 5th biggest gear to smallest gear is fine.
Shifting from smallest gear all the way to largest gear is fine. Cassette teeth look fine. Did you accidentally flip a cog when you put the cassette back on? All spacers accounted for? How does the shift cable feel in overall smoothness? Could be hangar alignment but 8 speed system can take quite a bit of bend before the shifting gets really bad.
You should be able to see it from the rear if its that bad. Is it even possible to flip a cog when reassembling a cassette? I thought they were keyed to prevent that. Keyed for clocking but not sides. Shift ramps being on the wrong side can cause shifting issues granted more Shift - Duplo (2) - Strange Holidays In Techno (Cassette) an issue going up rather than down. I missed it somehow all these years. The skinny is offset ever so slightly.
I wonder what im remembering had flip issues. It's doubtful I flipped a cog or forgot a spacer since I had no leftover parts.
I just took a look at the cassette and the spacing between cogs looks uniform. The hangar alignment looks good also. His link aligns the H and L screws before tackling the B screw, before adjusting the indexing. I aligned the H and L screw before adjusting cable tension and then messed with the B screw. I am wondering if this reversed order may be the cause. Just narrowing down my list of issues. B tension is usually not too much of a problem unless its really low or really high.
Cable on the proper side of the fixing nut on the der? Does a manual cycle of the der reveal any stiffness no matter how insignificant? I have Shift - Duplo (2) - Strange Holidays In Techno (Cassette) followed the typical procedure of aligning the high gear and low gear before fiddling with the cable tension but something still isn't quite right. I'm not sure how to read this. I know you've said you've gone through the "typical procedures" but if you've gone through all the steps in their specific order the problem won't exist short of a mechanical failure of which we have no evidence for, especially when mid-cassette shifts are what are borked which raises a different red flag but we'll cross that bridge when we get there.
I have not verified the alignment, but looking at your second link I adjusted the B screw after adjusting the cable tension so I wonder if that is what caused the issue. If those are the gears that you typically ride in, could Shift - Duplo (2) - Strange Holidays In Techno (Cassette) just be due for a new cassette? Most riders tend to primarily ride in gears out of the range, which are going to wear faster as a result.
Shift - Duplo (2) - Strange Holidays In Techno (Cassette) know you said they visually look fine, but its pretty difficult to eyeball cassette wear in my experience. Easy answer No, this won't work with 8 speed indexed shifters.
Complex answer An 8 speed shifter won't move your derailleur enough to shift to the next cog, lacking 0. Sign up or log in Shift - Duplo (2) - Strange Holidays In Techno (Cassette) up using Google. Sign up using Facebook.
